Available as a fully-hosted service and as a complete API, Rand McNally MapEngine allows organizations and developers to incorporate accurate, print-quality maps, directions, and location search functionality into websites.
Through Rand McNally MapEngine, you can access the same proprietary map database used by Rand McNally to publish printed Street Guides, Thomas Guides®, and professional CustomView wall maps. Unlike other mapping servers that rely on raw vendor-supplied map databases, Rand McNally augments, corrects, and enhances these datasets and cartographically improves their presentation, resulting in more complete, accurate, and true-to-the-locality maps.
Additional features of Rand McNally MapEngine include:
- Map image — support of various image formats and map styles, customizable icons and scale bars returned in the map images.
- Routing — route customization for a variety of options, multi-point routing and sequencing for route optimization as well as results that return a highlighted route on a map in addition to route steps, time and distance information.
- Geocoding — ability to locate multiple addresses, cross streets, airports via airport codes and locations via latitude/longitude inputs, DMS or DD.
- Proximity Search — a variety of search options such as location searches, radial spatial, corridor spatial and the ability to search by user data attributes.
- TrueTrack® - Rand McNally's proprietary geofencing capability allows creation of custom virtual boundaries for fleet vehicle monitoring.
Rand McNally MapEngine is available in two configurations:
- Rand McNally MapEngine Hosted Locator — Hosted turnkey mapping, routing, and location search application
- Rand McNally MapEngine Server API — Developer-level toolset and web service for integrating mapping, routing, and location search functions into customized applications
