Last month more than 85% of our customers took advantage of advanced support provided to help ease the transition to new Hours of Service rules. Here's how it went.
Throughout the weeks leading up to the rule changes, the Rand McNally customer service team prepared customers for the changes, and helped to ensure seamless and continued compliance. The Rand McNally Technical Support team offered private training sessions walking drivers and fleet managers through all of the related on-device and Rand McNally Connect web portal changes.
One of our customers, Chad Mensch, General Manager at Watsontown Trucking, shared his appreciation with us. “Rand McNally did an awesome job preparing us, training us, and after the fact, supporting us.”
In addition to the private training sessions, we provided all customers with detailed information on all of the changes that fleet managers could easily email to their drivers right from the portal to their TND™ 760 or TPC 7600 devices. A short tutorial video for drivers was also made available.
Hours of Service rules might not change often, but when they do, Rand McNally works to help ensure customers experience a painless adjustment. Our goal was that the change would be uneventful for our customers, and the feedback has been overwhelmingly positive.
Beyond supporting the new Hours of Service rules, the 5.14 software update for all TND™ 760 and TPC 7600 devices was also packed with a variety of new features our customers have been asking for. Some of the most notable improvements include:
- Enhanced event reporting
- The ability to inject destinations directly into the IntelliRoute® navigation software from the Rand McNally Connect web portal
- Support for oil and natural gas Hours of Service rules
- Integration with fleet-selected outside email addresses

Earlier this month, we headed off to the world’s largest truck stop to be part of the Walcott Truckers Jamboree at the Iowa 80 Travel Center in Walcott, Iowa. Our booth featured demos of the IntelliRoute® TND™ 720 LM and 520 LM, including the latest Wi-Fi® connected services, plus Rand McNally gear and product support.
Throughout the show, we updated customer TND™ units, provided map updates, and felt the excitement around new product features, particularly Compare Routes. Another big hit at the show was the new 2014 Motor Carriers’ Road Atlas.
