This fall, the Drivewyze™ PreClear weigh station bypass service will be available through Rand McNally's mobile fleet management devices. The value-add service enables commercial carriers to leverage their hard-earned safety scores, permitting trucks to bypass weigh stations instead of having to pull in - up to 98% of the time, depending on the carrier's safety score.¹
Here's how it works: As a truck approaches a weigh station, safety-related data is communicated in real-time. If the vehicle is not flagged for any service, safety or tax liability issues, the vehicle may be given a bypass command, which is displayed on the Rand McNally device screen. This permits the driver to proceed along the mainline, reducing weigh station overcrowding, and saving fleets and drivers valuable time and fuel.
What's the value to you? It's extra money in your pocket. According to an FMCSA study, each bypass saves approximately $8.68 in fuel and time expenses. Drivewyze also provides a free Weigh Station Loss Reporting tool that can show you the real costs your fleet is incurring due to unplanned delays at weigh stations.
The Drivewyze bypass service is provided at more than 350 fixed weigh stations and mobile inspection sites in 25 states, with more states and sites being added regularly.

Earlier this month, the Rand McNally team made the trip to Iowa 80, the world’s largest truck stop, for one of our favorite shows of the year, Truckers Jamboree. At the booth we met numerous owner-operators, and had the opportunity to demonstrate the finer features of our TND™ truck GPS units and the HD 100 E-Log device.
Plus, so many customers stopped by to tell us how much they like the TND™, and how much they’ve come to rely on it for all their hauls. This really brought a big smile to our faces!
During the show, we were also able to provide product support and enjoyed answering tons of interesting, “Now, how do I…?” questions. The team really had a great time, and we look forward to seeing everyone again next year.
Just months after fleet-wide implementation of the TND™ 760, Ready Trucking of Ellenwood, Ga. reports several positive effects on overall fleet efficiency. As a result of using the TND™ 760, the 100-truck fleet has experienced progress like:
- Improved safety and compliance through more accurate and reliable Hours of Service recording
- Significant operational efficiencies with automated reporting
- The ability to evaluate and manage more data, allowing dispatchers to spend less time on the phone, and more time planning and making decisions
“In the past, the hardware associated with mobile communications was expensive, proprietary, and difficult to install and maintain. We ultimately selected Rand McNally because it is easy to install, based on their award-winning truck navigation solution, and cheaper to maintain,” said Morgan Hulsey, Executive Director of Operations at Ready Trucking. “For example, we only have to manage a single device with Rand McNally, versus three different unit parts in older generation equipment. There wasn't a comparable product in terms of overall cost of ownership based on our computations.”
Additionally, executives of Ready Trucking said the overall adoption of technology and a quick response to industry change has been imperative to the retention of customers, drivers and overall growth for the company.
