Located in Skokie, Ill., Rand McNally has been steering people in the right direction for more than 150 years. Since 1936, the company has collaborated with the commercial transportation industry, driving innovation in truck-specific routing technology. The company developed the first digital truck-routing product in the early 1980s with its MileMaker® software. Shortly thereafter, Rand McNally developed "intelligent routing" – launching IntelliRoute®, which provides routes tailored to specific truck configurations, hazmat hauling, toll avoidance, and other relevant features. By 2009, the company had launched advanced truck routing with a Dock2Dock version of IntelliRoute® as well as the innovative and award-winning IntelliRoute® TND™ truck GPS system. For decades, Rand McNally has collected, refined, and updated information and roadway data specific to the transportation industry, now known collectively as Rand McNally Truck Data.

Meanwhile, 1,400 miles away in Salt Lake City, a group of engineers led by an industrial business development expert, have been working for more than 15 years to develop an unparalleled mobile computing solution. DriverTech has deployed its proprietary technology to thousands of trucking, military, and emergency vehicle fleets. The technology is built on a Windows® Embedded Standard (formerly Embedded XP) platform to allow easy integration with other electronics such as scanners, printers, tire-pressure monitors, and back-up cameras. The company further revolutionized fleet communication by integrating Wifi transmission with cell and satellite – saving fleets 68% vs. previous communication systems. In anticipation of coming regulation, DriverTech launched an hours of service (HOS) application that has been tested and approved by the industry's largest fleets. Some fleets have reported that by complying with FMCSA regulations 395.15 and 395.16, the electronic HOS system has been shown to save drivers as much as 40 minutes per week in driving time.

In October 2010, these two companies came together to offer a complete onboard fleet management solution to the commercial trucking market. The new TruckPC product marries award-winning truck navigation with unparalleled, engineering-driven fleet management technology.
