The scenery here is stunning and people come from all over the world to witness the region's exceptional natural beauty. Facilities and locales in this forest will offer you many opportunities to explore and find out for yourself what makes this region so popular. Ozark National Forest features developed recreation areas including designated campsites. Campgrounds vary in setting and character; they range from quiet lakeside sites to areas located on overlooks and clearings atop Mount Magazine. You can also choose to set out on your own and do some backcountry camping. You'll find a wide variety of things to do during your visit to Ozark National Forest. Canoeing is ideal here, especially during the high-water spring season, and six designated Wild and Scenic Rivers allow for kayak trips and white water rafting. Fishing for bass, trout, and catfish is also an option. The varied flora of the region is another attraction. You'll also find about 300 miles of trails, two of which, Moccasin Gap Horse Trail and Huckleberry Mountain Horse Trail, serve as multipurpose foot, bike, and horseback trails. The 165-mile-long Ozark Highlands Trail spans the area from Lake Fort Smith State Park eastward to Buffalo National River. Bring your camera along because most of these trails are going to lead you to fantastic vistas. You'll find many natural wonders in the forest. At the northern border of the forest you'll find the amazing Alum Cove Natural Bridge, a formation that stretches for 130 feet. Blanchard Springs Caverns are located in the forest's easternmost unit. These caverns, which you can tour daily year-round, afford an amazing window into the subterranean world. Call 888-757-2246 for tour information and rates.
