Between the Ouachitas and the Ozarks, Petit Jean Mountain stands 1,207 feet above sea level, offering panoramic views of the Arkansas River Valley. The natural beauty of Petit Jean inspired the creation of Arkansas' state park system in 1923. Combining rustic-style and modern conveniences, facilities of log and stone constructed by the Civilian Conservation Corps are nestled throughout the park. The focal point is the Mather Lodge. Nearby are 33 fully-equipped cabins. The park offers campsite near Lake Bailey and in secluded woodlands. Handicapped-accessible sites are available. The park also offers picnic areas, playgrounds, pavilions, a launch ramp, a pool, and tennis courts. Interpreters host programs and special events highlighting the resources of this unforgettable state park. Petit Jean Mountain is also home to the Museum of Automobiles, a showcase of antique and classic cars. Petit Jean's airport is open for daytime use only. Take Exit 108 off I-40 at Morrilton and travel nine miles south on AR 9, then go 12 miles west on AR 154; or from Dardanelle, take exit 81 at Russellville, travel 10 miles south on AR 7, then go 16 miles east on AR 154 to the park. Pets: Leashed pets are permitted.
