This scenic area on the south bank of the St. Johns River includes restaurants, stores, and play areas for children. The area holds many special events, including parades and festivals throughout the year. It is adjacent to the Museum of Science and History and passes by Friendship Fountain, which is one of the largest self-contained fountains in the country. It pumps water to a height of 100 feet and uses 265 lights to fashion the water into a sparkling mist. Along the walk adjacent to the St. Johns River are the Jacksonville Maritime Museum Society's facility and The Lone Sailor, a statue commemorating members of the U.S. Navy.
