This barrier island, which also serves as Savannah's public beach, offers five miles of gorgeous white sand ocean beachfront. It offers all the classic beach activities: swimming, sunbathing, walking, shell-gathering, and volleyball. You can also enjoy special events, such as the kite festival, the Beach Bum Parade in May, and a July 3rd fireworks celebration. Visitors can walk the beach year-round. The main swimming season runs from Memorial Day through Labor Day, when temperatures range from the 80s to the high 90s. Restrooms, snack bars, and restaurants are available.
