Mark Twain called Waimea, "the Grand Canyon of the Pacific." In the state park, you can gaze from the rim at this scenic treasure that runs ten miles long and 3,600 feet deep. If your up for a walk, the adjacent forest preserve offers a long, strenuous hike into and out of the canyon. For shorter walks there is also a nature trail, picnicking spots, and views of Ni'ihau Island. Adjoining Koke'e State Park has trails, tent and trailer camping, and lodging. Waimea Canyon State Park is located 11 miles north of Kekaha on Hwy 550 (Kokee Road).
