Through a wealth of exciting multi-media presentations, Dickson Mounds brings to life 12,000 years of human experience in the Illinois River Valley. A branch of the Illinois State Museum and a National Historic Site, this major on-site archaeological museum uses prehistoric artifacts and innovative interpretive exhibits to explore features of early Native American life from the reliance on wild resources for food production to the changes brought about by the arrival of Europeans. Guided tours, hands-on activities, and a wide range of special programs are offered year-round. Open daily from 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM. Free.
