The Blowing Rock is an immense cliff overhanging the Johns River Gorge, 3,000 feet below. The rocky walls of the gorge form a flume through which the northwest winds sweep with such force that they return light objects cast over the void. The spectacular view of the Blue Ridge Mountains makes this one of North Carolina's most popular tourist attractions. On US Hwy 321, 2 mi S of Blowing Rock village.
