This park covers 1,293 acres and is a former riverboat crossing. The landscape is varied and offers a wide range of wildlife including deer, fox, and bald eagle. Lake Sakakawea is the terminus of the North County National Scenic Trail. When completed, the trail will stretch 3,300 miles from upstate New York to Lake Sakakawea. There are numerous campsites, a cabin, an amphitheater, shower facilities, and a picnic shelter. A full-service marina, fishing, hiking, and swimming are also offered. Any fishing requires a North Dakota state fishing license, which is sold in the park. No hunting is permitted. Twenty-four-hour security is on site. Reservations are recommended for all campsites and cabins. Full facilities for camping are available from the middle of May to the middle of September. Handicapped-accessible sites and facilities are available. Pets: 0 Leashed pets are permitted in park and campgrounds but not in any beach areas. North Dakota state parks charge a nominal daily entrance fee per vehicle.
