The deep valley known as Franconia Notch covers almost 6,500 acres in the White Mountains between the Franconia and Kinsman ranges. Franconia Notch State Park preserves the natural beauty of the area, but also offers visitors a banquet of outdoor activity. Mountain flowers bloom beside the tumbling waters of the Flume Gorge, a mountain stream falling through a gorge surrounded by tall cliffs and mountains. Other scenic highlights include the Basin, a granite pothole. Lafayette Campground offers primitive sites, restrooms with showers, a visitor center, a camp store, ice and firewood. Cannon Mountain Ski Area offers downhill skiing, a tram and the New England Ski Museum. Franconia Notch State Park is a hiker's paradise, with a variety of trails and a 9-mile bike path. Two small lakes offer fishing and a beach for swimming. The park also accommodates other winter sports, such as cross-country skiing, downhill skiing, and snowmobiling. Cannon Mountain is open year-round but Lafayette Campground and the Flume are open mid-May through mid-October. Pets: 0 Pet policies vary from park to park. Please call in advance of your trip.
