These colorful sandstone palisades, only 17 miles from the Las Vegas Strip, are among the area's most impressive sights. Hiking trails and a 13-mile scenic drive provide dramatic views of the cliffs and canyons. Picnic sites are available and the park gives interpretive hikes. The area is also well known for its rock climbing. The Bureau of Land Management operates the Visitor Center, located near the start of Scenic Loop Road, and a campground. Surrounded by the Conservation Area is historic Spring Mountain Ranch, once owned by reclusive millionaire Howard Hughes. Leashed pets are permitted with restrictions.
