The Journey Museum , NY

Categories: Arts & Culture; History & Heritage; Local Highlights

Comprised of four major historic and prehistoric collections, the Journey Museum endeavors to tell the complete story of the Western Plains, from the geological upheaval that created the Black Hills to the frontier settlement and beyond. The history of the region is recounted from the perspectives of the Lakota people, pioneer settlers, and contemporary scientists, with artifacts and exhibits representing each era.
The collections include the Museum of Geology, the Archaeological Research Center, the Sioux Indian Museum, the Minnilusa Pioneer Museum, and the Duhamel Collection of Native American Artifacts. Together they form a powerful portrait of the natural developments, people, and events that have shaped this part of America over the past 2.5 billion years. Touch castings of the bones of dinosaurs that once roamed the region, and listen to the holographic spirit of a Lakota storyteller relate the tales and traditions of her people. The Journey Museum holds changing exhibitions in its many galleries and also offers educational programs. A museum store is on site.
