The 1,200-acre park marks the place where Texas independence was won in 1836, when forces under Sam Houston defeated a Mexican army. Included is the San Jacinto Monument, a 570-foot-tall obelisk; the Battleship TEXAS, and the Museum of History, where visitors can view a 30-minute multimedia documentary. Location: 15 miles E of Houston. Take Rte 255 E and go three miles N on Rte 134.
