Although it is far from major urban areas, this world-famous stretch of land, which has a unique natural surface suited for high-speed automobile racing, is worth a mention. The Salt Flats, which stretch over 30,000 acres, are the place at which numerous land speed records have been set. Frequently used as a locale for commercial films, this site also attracts many tourists yearly. Much of the area is a thin salt crust over soft mud. Restaurants and overnight accommodations are located within a short drive. Located on the Utah/Nevada border at Interstate 80, near Wendover.
