The Mount, at the junction of U.S. 7 and MA Route 7A, was owned by author and Pulitzer Prize-winner Edith Wharton. Other notables who had homes in the region included Herman Melville, Henry Adams, and Henry Wadsworth Longfellow. West of Stockbridge, on MA Route 183, is Chesterwood, home and studio of sculptor Daniel Chester French. Among his many works are the statue of Abraham Lincoln for the Lincoln Memorial in Washington and the Minuteman statue in Concord, Massachusetts.

The Norman Rockwell Museum, in Stockbridge, has the largest collection in existence of paintings and drawings by Norman Rockwell, along with photographs and props used by the artist.
