Overview. The smallest of Canada's national parks includes a mainland site in eastern Ontario and 24 forested islands accessible only by boat. Accessible only by boat, the islands lie in the heart of the St. Lawrence River's 1000 Islands area. The park also encompasses 90 islets stretching from Brockville to Main Duck Island, and offers wonderful bird-watching, photographic, and relaxation opportunities. What to see and do. The park's mainland base at Mallorytown Landing is located along the 22-mile 1000 Islands Parkway, which parallels the St. Lawrence River. The base occupies a 100-acre site and offers an interpretive center, a small beach, picnic area, nature shop, theater, playground, group camping, and a walking trail. From various points along the mainland, you can take a water taxi out to the islands themselves. Access is also possible via private or rental boat. A boat launch is adjacent to the parking area at Mallorytown Landing. Some of the islands provide picnic shelters. Eleven islands have from two to 17 individual primitive campsites with water pumps located nearby. Handicapped-accessible sites and facilities are available. All campsites are first-come, first-served. Group camping is also possible. Visitors to the islands enjoy fishing, boating, kayaking, and hiking; there are interpretive trails on several of the islands. Pets: Leashed pets are allowed. Fees: A nominal parking fee is charged for the mainland area.
