To take your pick of live musical entertainment, head over to Birmingham's southside and the area surrounding the University of Alabama. The Nick offers alternative rock from local, regional and national acts from 10 PM to 2 AM nightly. The club's also been known to book blues, bluegrass, rockabilly, and other roots acts, too. The multi-level Zydeco features regional and national caliber acts Thursday through Saturday. This is another place to see alt rock, alt country and roots music bands. Work/Play is the place to go for singer/songwriters, acoustic music, and up-and-comers on the contemporary country music scene.
Fans of stand-up comedy can see the best national headliners perform at the aptly named Comedy Club at the Stardome in nearby Hoover.
For the latest information on club schedules and individual venues, consult Birmingham's local newspapers and entertainment publications like Birmingham Weekly.
