This Tennessee River town, originally called Coldwater, has a big spring in Spring Park that produces 55 million gallons of water a day. You can visit "Ivy Green," the birthplace of Helen Keller, who, at 19 months of age, became blind and deaf from an illness, yet courageously lived and learned, becoming an educator and inspiration to others. The site includes the well where she learned the word "water," a scene movingly portrayed in the play and movie The Miracle Worker0 . Tuscumbia is also the home of the Alabama Music Hall of Fame, where memorabilia and wax figures of Alabama musicians are on display. In the unusual Key Underwood Coon Dog Memorial Graveyard, you can read the touching tributes written on the headstones of these popular hunting dogs.
