Caves yawn right off the main street, and springs bubble in this venerable Arkansas resort. There are 63 springs within the city limits. The streets plunge and twist over Ozark hills, and houses cling to steep slopes. Worshippers enter St. Elizabeth Church through its bell tower and descend to the sanctuary. Many Victorian buildings include Rosalie House (1883). The town is noted as an arts and crafts colony. Performances of operas and concerts are given each summer by students at the Inspiration Point Fine Arts Colony. Country music shows flourish, and visitors flock to the Great Passion Play, performed in a 4,400-seat outdoor amphitheater from April through October. Steam train fanciers can take a ride on the Eureka Springs and North Arkansas Railway.
East of here is Onyx Cave Park, with its unusual formations; to the west, find beautiful gardens at Blue Spring Heritage Center.
