This town in Arkansas's northwest Ozark region began as a planned resort community in the mid-1960s. The area offers seven golf courses, six fishing lakes, swimming, boating, waterskiing, and riding among other recreational activities. The Bella Vista Arts and Crafts Festival, which brings upwards of 400 artists, craftspersons, and vendors to town, takes place in October. Other craft fairs occur in nearby communities from spring to fall.In nearby Bentonville, you can visit the headquarters of Wal-Mart and learn how the retailing giant grew. History buffs will want to travel eastward to Pea Ridge National Military Park, the site of a major Civil War battle.
