This cultural epicenter of the Ozarks offers competitions, festivals, and fairs around the calendar. The town hosts the Arkansas Folk Festival in April, the Old Time Fiddlers Competition in September, and, in October, the popular Beanfest, where, among other events, competitors race in homemade outhouses much like in a go-kart or soapbox derby. Music and crafts of the mountain people are displayed at Ozark Folk Center, a major interpretive and preservation project of the Arkansas State Parks Division. Weaving, woodworking, musical instrument making, and dozens of other crafts are demonstrated here by skilled craftspersons. Nearby, visit the Blanchard Springs Caverns where separate tours are offered of the cave's upper and lower chambers.
