In 1963, this planned desert resort and retirement community was created on the shores of the lake that was born with the construction of Parker Dam in 1938. London Bridge, the most popular landmark in town and the centerpiece of the English Village shopping area, was transported here in 10,276 pieces from its original location, crossing the River Thames in London, England. Lake Havasu makes for excellent fishing, water skiing, and sailing. You can also take sight-seeing cruises of the lake and Topock Gorge. Lake Havasu State Park offers camping, watersports, and picnicking facilities along its 45-miles of shoreline. Similar facilities are available at Buckskin Mountain and Cattail Cove state parks. You can also watch for rare wildlife in one of Arizona's last riparian wetlands at the Bill Williams River National Wildlife Refuge.
