The heart of downtown Tucson, Congress Street, provides the pulse for the city's nightlife. This strip of cafes and nightclubs is dominated by Club Congress, located in the historic Hotel Congress. You're likely to hear local alternative bands at Club Congress, in addition to the national and international acts that have been known to grace its stage.
Live music is offered seven nights a week at Chicago Bar. As befits the name, this is the place to hear the blues plus reggae, a little jazz, and retro rock-n-roll. For country music fans, The Maverick - King of Clubs has a regular lineup playing Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights. They also offer lessons in several dance styles.
The cabaret atmosphere of Laff's Comedy Cafe offers a place to settle in for standup comedians Thursday through Sunday nights. They have an open-mic night for would-be laughmeisters on Wednesdays.
For kitsch at its best, drop by the Kon Tiki. This long-standing Polynesian bar has been serving up elaborate (and potent) island drinks since before Hawaii became a state. Club dance nights and various live performances take place on Sundays.
