Mount Shasta is a 14,162-foot, snow-capped volcano that attracts both spiritual individuals and thrill-seekers. Visitors can drive up the scenic road that goes more than 7,000 feet up the mountain. Along with the cross-country and downhill skiing, fishing, white-water rafting and mountain climbing, a wide variety of hiking trails are offered here. Other facilities include the Sisson Museum, an 18-hole golf course, and mountain bike rentals. National forest surrounds the town, where all is green and fresh. Several commercial campgrounds can be found in the area; contact the visitors bureau. It is open seven days a week, from 10 AM to 4 PM in the winter and from 9 AM to 5 PM in the summer and to 6 PM on summer weekends. The national forest offers a wide range of activities, including camping facilities. Because this is a highly popular area, any lodging arrangements should be made well in advance of your trip.
