Route 99 forms a freeway along the southwest side of the city. Route 41 is the north-south freeway. City streets are laid out on a grid, making it relatively easy to get around. Addresses are divided into east and west by Thorn Avenue. East Divisadero Street divides the city into north and south addresses.

Bus: Fresno Area Express (Fresno Transit) operates bus lines that mostly serve the immediate city of Fresno. Buses run from 5:30 AM to 10 PM Monday through Friday and from 6:30 AM on the weekend. Rides cost $1 and include one transfer. (559-621-7433) Taxi: Taxis may be hailed on the street. Fares are established by the city and begin at $2.90 for the first mile and $2 for each additional mile. Yellow Cab is at 559-486-5700.

(FYI) Fresno Yosemite International Airport is located about 5 miles from downtown on the east side of the city. (800-244-2359) Transportation from the airport to downtown Fresno: Bus: Fresno Transit bus #26 makes pickups for downtown outside the airport main gate. To board the bus, you must walk outside the main gate to the bus stop across Clinton Street. The trip is 30 minutes. (559-621-7433) Taxi: Expect to pay $20 to $22 for a 10-minute ride to downtown.
