If you enjoy wine, this central Sonoma County town, with its charming B&Bs, Victorian homes, and century-old, tree-lined Plaza Park, is a perfect base from which to enjoy the more than 90 surrounding wineries. Plaza Park plays host to concerts in the summer, a variety of special events and is a popular picnic spot. The Healdsburg Museum features examples of Pomo basketry and the local library has a department dedicated to Sonoma County wine. Follow the Russian River Wine Road, a network of highways and country roads through Healdsburg and the redwood groves along the Russian River. Pick up a Wine Road map and a Farm Trails map, identifying locally produced fresh foods, organically grown fruits and vegetables, and specialty nurseries. The Russian River resort area is popular for canoeing and swimming.
