Located where steep hills meet the Pacific, scenic Laguna Beach has long been a popular artists' colony. You can browse the many art galleries, antique shops, and boutiques, then go swimming at one of the beautiful beaches. The seven miles of coastline encompass 30 public beaches and numerous charming coves.
You can see the work of contemporary California artists at the Laguna Art Museum, or catch a performance at the highly-regarded Laguna Playhouse. The Crystal Cove State Park is a fascinating place to observe marine life both above and below the surface. You can also visit the Marine Mammal Rescue Center.
The Festival of the Arts and Pageant of the Masters presents the unique sight of local residents costumed and made-up to create living versions of the world's great paintings. The festival takes place in July and August with artists presenting a wide range of works, music, and craft demonstrations.
