Elegant waterfront villas, smart shops, and fine scenery have earned this seaside community a reputation as the American Riviera. The Balboa Pavilion, a Victorian-style landmark on Newport Bay, is the scene for harbor cruises, fishing, boat rentals, and other water activities. At nearby Newport Pier, you can see the dory fishing boats that have operated in these waters with little change since the 1890s. Newport Beach's Wedge is a magnet for bodysurfers. The waves here are called the best; no boards are allowed.
