Solvang, founded by Danish Americans in 1911, draws thousands of tourists to its picturesque Scandinavian trappings. With shops displaying blue and white bunting, and artificial storks blessing the roof tops, the town is crammed with Danish-themed restaurants and import stores. The pastry shops here are reputed to be the best in the state.
You can also visit the Old Mission Santa Ines, an immaculate restoration of the mission established in 1804; it contains a museum exhibiting Native American and European mission artifacts. Nearby, you'll find numerous wineries offering tours and tastings throughout the Santa Ynez Valley.
