Located at the point where the Gualala River meets the ocean, this former logging town has a nice choice of sites for anyone who wants to spend a day at the beach. You can try the long sand spit near town or you can visit one of the quiet beaches that can be found along the river. Picturesque restaurants and shops in town offer plenty to do away from the water. Incidentally, the town's name comes from the Kashaya Pomo language and is pronounced "wa-LA-la."
