This beautiful, hip, eclectic town, set against the Flatiron Mountains at an altitude of 5,436 feet, attracts students, entrepreneurs, and outdoor lovers. Enjoy the boutiques, galleries, sidewalk cafes, vegetarian restaurants, and street musicians on the Pearl Street Mall. An excellent network of bike paths makes it one of the most bike-friendly cities in the country; don't miss the Boulder Creek Path. Boulder is also home to the nation's only accredited Buddhist university, Naropa Institute.
Visit the University of Colorado's art museum, art gallery, and natural history museum; the Museum of Contemporary Art; the Leanin' Tree Museum of Western Art; the National Center for Atmospheric Research; or tour the headquarters of tea-maker Celestial Seasonings. The Mary Rippon Outdoor Theater stages the annual Colorado Shakespeare Festival, and the Chatauqua Association hosts the Colorado Music Festival in July and August.
Some of the best rock climbing in the world can be found in the Flatirons and nearby Eldorado Canyon. Enjoy walking, hiking, and biking in the Flatirons; fishing at Brainard Lake, Boulder Creek, Boulder Reservoir, and Barker Reservoir in nearby Nederland; and cross-country skiing in Roosevelt National Forest.
