The broad, shallow waters of Lake Okeechobee, entirely ringed by a levee built to control flooding, is a bass fisherman's dream. The lake is the site of the Redman Competition, a bass tournament held four times a year in spring and winter. Other than during tournament time, you can usually find charter boats readily available for a day's excursion on the waters. Belle Glade and other towns surrounding the lake mark the heart of Florida's cane-growing and sugar-refining industry. You can explore the town's history at the Belle Glade Public Library and the Lawrence E. Will Museum, both located in the Municipal Complex.
