Fort Walton Beach shares 24 miles of white sand Gulf shoreline with Destin. Thus, the same beach activities are offered: sunbathing, swimming, shelling, scuba diving, snorkeling, volleyball, water tricycles, windsurfing, and fishing. Ft. Walton also offers a number of beach festivals. High season is Memorial Day to Labor Day when lifeguards are on duty; spring and fall are also popular. Summer temperatures are in the 80s. Restrooms, showers, restaurants are available. Nearby, the "digs" at Indian Temple Mound Museum draw history and prehistory students to its archaeological displays. Dolphins and sea lions perform at the Gulfarium. Northeast of town is Eglin Air Force Base.
