Lavish hotels tower above glamorous Collins Avenue. There are seven miles of sandy, palm-fringed mile-wide oceanfront beach and hundreds of swimming pools in the area. The Art Deco District (one square mile) contains 16 city blocks. The Bass Museum of Art exhibits fine art, and the Miami Beach Botanical Garden contains orchids, anthuriums, and ferns. Visitors come to swim, sunbathe, fish, jet-ski, and go parasailing. A boardwalk along the northern part of the beach is popular with walkers and joggers. Parts of the beach are lifeguarded year-round. Busiest December to April; temperatures run 60 to 80. Restrooms, outdoor showers, food stands.
