Interstate 75 runs to the east of Tampa and downtown is crossed by Interstates 4 and 275. Most people use a car in Tampa and driving, except during rush hour, is relatively easy. All day parking costs from $5 to $10 in public and private parking garages and lots.

Bus: Hillsborough Area Regional Transit (HART) runs the HARTline bus service in Tampa and the surrounding suburbs. Rides cost $1.30 for regular buses, $2.25 for express routes. Buses operate from 4 AM until 8 PM. (813-254-4278) Trolley: HARTLine operates a daily trolley service between downtown Tampa and Ybor City. Rides cost $2 or $4 for the day. Taxi: It is customary in Tampa to order cabs by phone. Rates are $2 to enter the cab and $2.25 for each mile. A flat fee of $3 per person is available in the downtown area. Tampa's two major cab companies are United (813-253-2424) and Yellow (813-253-0121).

Tampa International Airport (TPA)
Tampa International Airport (TPA) is only five miles west of downtown Tampa on the east shore of Tampa Bay. (813-870-8700) Transportation from airport to downtown Tampa: Bus: HARTline bus #30 leaves from the east end of the Red baggage claim area every half hour between 5:38 AM and 8:38 PM. The ride downtown will take about 45 minutes and costs $1.30. (813-254-4278) Shuttle: Companies are contracted to provide shared-van service to different parts of the surrounding area. Bay Shuttle (813-259-9998; 866-259-9929) serves Tampa. Fares to downtown hotels run about $11. Taxi: Expect to pay a flat fee of $20 to reach downtown. The trip will take only ten minutes in light traffic, 25 minutes during rush hour. Taxis leave from both the Red and Blue baggage claim areas. There are two major taxi companies: United (813-253-2424) and Yellow (813-253-0121).
