West Palm Beach and the surrounding areas provide locals and visitors plenty to do after that South Florida sun sets.
The main drag, Clematis Street, is chockful of bars and nightspots. Ray's Downtown Blues offers plenty of what the name proclaims, along with a sampling of punk, funk and what-have-you in an intimate, laidback environment. Celtic, acoustic and bluegrass played live help to keep the demons at bay Wednesday through Saturday at O'Shea's Irish Pub.
For a tropical groove, try Banana Boat in Boynton Beach. This restaurant and bar on the Intracoastal Waterway offers live music Wednesday, Friday and Saturday nights, plus Sundays in the afternoon and evening. The Bamboo Room in Lake Worth is a must-go locale for fans of the blues, southern rock, New Orleans funk, and Afro-Cuban hip-hop. Bands playing these wide-ranging musical offerings play Tuesday through Saturday nights.
Dress your best if you plan to entertain yourself in Palm Beach proper. This decidedly wealthy community offers a number of places for the well-heeled to kick back. Smooth sounds accompany the martinis at the Leopard Lounge in the swank Chesterfield Hotel. Or, for a quiet drink drop into the posh restaurant and bar, Ta-Boo'. This Palm Beach fixture features live piano music nightly.
