A popular coastal stop for visitors to Cape Canaveral and Orlando, Melbourne is a sunny beach community situated primarily on the mainland and also on a barrier island, unified by a number of large bridges. Nearby "Space Coast" stops such as Melbourne Beach, Palm Bay, Indialantic, Canova Beach, Cocoa Beach, Satellite Beach, and Indian Harbour Beach all provide quintessential Florida beach escapes.
Melbourne itself is known as a prime golfing destination, with good public courses at Baytree (321-259-9060), Harbor City (255-4606), and Melbourne Municipal (321-722-6016).
