This popular barrier island off the coast of Brunswick, Georgia has ten miles of smooth, white sand beaches lapped by a gentle surf. Beachgoers come to swim, sunbathe, wade, relax, walk, collect shells, catch shrimp, ride bicycles, watch for birds, and fish in the surf. Visitors start coming in March and keep coming through October; the major beach season is Memorial Day through Labor Day. Midsummer temperatures range between 74 and 90 degrees. Amenities include modern bathrooms, outdoor showers, and snack bars. Other island attractions include the Jekyll Island National Historic Landmark District, Tidelands Nature Center, Summer Waves Waterpark, 63 holes of golf, 20 miles of biking and jogging trails, and tennis courts. Nine hotels, a campground, and rental cottages provide a wide array of lodging options.
