Attractions

You can visit the State Capitol to see where Georgia's laws are made. The Capitol grounds are landscaped with native Georgia flora, including elms, oaks, and magnolias.

At the Atlanta History Center , visitors can explore Atlanta's multifaceted past, from Indian settlements, cotton fields, and the Civil War, to Coca-Cola, "Gone With The Wind," Civil Rights, and the Olympic Games. The center also offers tours of two historic homes: the 1928 Swann House and the Tullie Smith Farm, an 1840s plantation farmhouse and outbuildings.

Located on the Emory University campus, the Michael C. Carlos Museum emphasizes the art of the ancient cultures of the Mediterranean and the Americas. Here you will find pre-Columbian pottery, Greek statues, and artifacts from the Middle and Far East.

One of the largest planetariums in the country can be found at the Fernbank Science Center, which also has an exhibit hall and observatory. After studying the stars, visitors can walk through the Fernbank Forest, a 65-acre woods with well over a mile of trails. The nearby Fernbank Museum of Natural History offers a number of exhibits, including "A Walk Through Time in Georgia," which takes the visitor through the chronological development of life on Earth. The museum also has an IMAX Theater.

Visit The Martin Luther King, Jr. Center for Nonviolent Social Change to learn more about this Nobel Peace Prize winner and his vision for a better America. To add to this experience, visit Dr. King's grave, his birth home, and Ebenezer Baptist Church, where he preached.

Everyone who comes to Atlanta must visit Underground Atlanta. Six city blocks in the heart of the city have been transformed into an urban marketplace featuring a wide variety of restaurants, specialty shops, and places of entertainment. Directly adjacent to Underground Atlanta is The World of Coca-Cola , a three-story structure filled with memorabilia, advertisements, and exhibits, all celebrating Atlanta's well-known soft drink.

The architectural landmarks Peachtree Center and the Westin Peachtree Plaza are on famous Peachtree Street. The Robert W. Woodruff Arts Center, an outstanding setting for opera, symphony, ballet and repertory companies, is at Peachtree Center. The High Museum of Art is also here.
