This quiet, pleasant town, the seat of Bartow County, was almost completely destroyed during the Civil War. You can visit the site of the Battle of Allatoona Pass (October 1864), which was the first battle of the Nashville Campaign. Downtown, you'll find the first Coca-Cola advertisment painted on a wall (1894). You can also tour Roselawn Museum, the Victorian era home of evangelist Samuel Porter Jones.
Another historical attraction, the Etowah Indian Mounds, was a major center of the Mississipian culture from AD 1000 to AD 1500. For recreation, Lake Allatoona and Red Top Mountain State Park offer opportunities for boating, camping, and fishing. In nearby White, you'll find the William Weinman Mineral Museum with its extensive collection of rocks, minerals and re-created natural sites from Georgia and around the world.
