This farming town is a major center of Illinois' Amish community. You'll see horse-drawn plows in the surrounding fields as bearded men in broad-brimmed hats roll by in horse-drawn buggies. Just west of nearby Arcola is Rockome Gardens, whose featured attractions include seasonal flower gardens and a large collection of rock fences, buildings, arches, and ornamental designs. Also on the grounds are a replica of an early Amish farmhouse, a re-creation of a pioneer village, a one-room schoolhouse, a restaurant offering Illinois-Dutch-style food, and a variety of shops.
