These sister cities are home to Illinois State University (in Normal) and Illinois Wesleyan University (in Bloomington). Bloomington was the birthplace of the Illinois Republican Party in 1856, and was also the hometown of Democratic Vice President Adlai E. Stevenson (1835-1914) and his grandson, former Illinois Governor Adlai E. Stevenson II (1900-1965). The Old Courthouse Museum contains displays on local politicians, early settlers, agriculture, and industry. The David Davis Mansion (1872) is a fine example of Victorian architecture, with many features that were considered luxuries at the time, such as indoor plumbing. At Miller Park, you can enjoy swimming, fishing, and picnicking, and visit the Miller Park Zoo which contains an Australian area and a rain-forest area. There is no shortage of things to do in BN. The Apple Barn (309-963-5557) is the oldest commercial orchard in McLean County; they have damn good cider and host special weekend events at various times from July through December. At the Illinois State University Planetarium (309-438-5007) you can see sky shows and other astronomical displays. Upper Limits (309-829-TALL) is one of the world's tallest indoor climbing facilities. Fairview Family Aquatic Center (309-454-9555) has waterslides, pools, and volleyball courts.
