This Mississippi River town, named after President John Quincy Adams, saw its first heyday during the steamboat era of the late 1800s. The city is noted for its three historic districts and exceptional Victorian architecture. At the Gardner Museum of Architecture and Design, you'll find displays and interactive exhibits on the town's building heritage.Among Quincy's many fine homes are Villa Katherine, a Moorish manor house (1900) overlooking the Mississippi, the Governor John Wood Mansion, and the Newcomb-Stillwell Mansion (1891) housing the Quincy Museum. You can also visit the All Wars Museum at the Illinois Veterans Home.
