This farm town a few miles south of the Wisconsin state line has become one of Illinois' major antique centers with more than 20 shops surrounding its main intersection. When a mill was built here in 1844, a race to the top was held to determine who would have the privilege of choosing the town's name. The winner, Isaac Reed, chose to name the town after the place where he had been born, Richmond, Vermont.
