This tiny village is an excellent place for anyone interested in history and historic recreations. The Illinois Railway Museum recalls the glory days of railroading with steam trains, streetcars, electric interurban cars, an 1850s depot, and all-day rides on vintage trains and trolleys. The McHenry County Historical Museum preserves a number of structures including a log cabin built in 1847, a town hall (1885), a one-room school house (1895), and even a 20th-century tourist cabin.At Donley's Wild West Town, you can take the kids back to pioneer times in a recreated western town with a gold mine, pony rides, train rides, shoot outs, and a wild west show. The town museum has cowboy regalia, army uniforms, mining and Civil War relics, and an impressive collection of old-time phonographs and music boxes.
