While this town restored the best of its Victorian buildings, it also invited some of the world's great architects to create a setting for contemporary living. The Cummins Engine Foundation, established by the town's leading local industry, sparked the design and construction of more than 65 private and public buildings. You can tour the town and see what have been deemed some of the masterpieces of mid-20th century architecture. Highlights include the First Christian Church designed by Eliel Saarinen, the North Christian Church designed by Eero Saarinen, and the Irwin Gardens. Columbus is also home to the state's oldest philharmonic orchestra and celebrates its musical heritage with bluegrass, jazz, and pops festivals throughout the year.
