Car

As public transportation options are slim and hotels and business destinations are scattered all over the metropolitan area, driving a car is the best way to get around in Fort Wayne. Interstate 69 skirts the west and north sides of the city, while I-469 provides a beltway around the south and east sides. You'll find many one-way streets in the central city; as a general rule, use U.S. 24 (Jefferson Blvd. one-way eastbound; Washington Blvd. one-way westbound) and U.S. 27 (Lafayette Street one-way northbound; Clinton Street one-way southbound) as the major arteries for getting around within the city (or, at length, to reach the Interstates). Five major national car rental agencies are represented at Fort Wayne International Airport.

Public Transport

Bus: Citylink bus service operates Monday through Friday from 5:25 AM to 9:45 PM, and Saturdays from 7:30 AM to 6:30 PM. Fares are $1; transfers are free. Routes go from downtown to shopping centers and area employment locations.

Taxi: Taxicab rates are unregulated by the city and are higher than you'll find in most cities; nevertheless, rates are fairly competitive. Metered rates at AAA Cab (260-436-8294) include a $2.70 drop charge plus $2.70 per mile. Fares at Deluxe Cab (260-426-8555) are $2.70 for the drop charge plus $2.70 per mile. The city does not have any cab stands and cabs are seldom hailed in the streets; for service, it's best to call for a pick-up.

Airport

Fort Wayne International Airport (FWA) is located south of the city and serves populations in northeast Indiana and northwest Ohio.

Transportation from the airport to downtown Fort Wayne:

Fort Wayne's major hotels provide complimentary shuttle service from the airport; these include the Downtown Holiday Inn, the Fort Wayne Marriott Hotel, the Fort Wayne Hilton, Hilton Garden Inn, Don Hall's Guesthouse, and Comfort Suites.

Taxi: A taxi ride from the airport to hotels downtown or on the west side will cost around $25 to $27; to hotels on the north and east sides, around $35.
